Conservation of a stone-slab-covered roof and of a traditional pathway.

Year  :  2022
Project : Volunteering project - Conservation works in stone and timber construction.

Works on this European Heritage Volunteer project included the restoration of a stone-slab covered structure, the last of its kind in Gornji Stoliv in Montenegro. The structure was firstly documented through a survey and photography. Then, the stone slab roof was disassembled, including the rotten beams underneath. New beams were brought up to the site in order to reassemble the roof structure.

The team was also tasked with the stabilisation, repair and conservation of various displaced and damaged parts along the historical pathway, which has been damaged due to neglect and lack of continuous maintenance. The significance of this pathway and the threat of the construction of a new road made the project an important step into recognizing and appreciation the social and historic values of the area.
